The Second International Workshop on Relations Between the Indus and Aegean in the Bronze Age

University of Oxford

Oxford, UK

Postponed to November 2025

Convened by Marie N. Pareja, Andrew Shapland, and Tim Claydon, the second international workshop on relations between the Indus and Aegean will be held in honor of the late Professor Robert Arnott. The resulting publication will constitute part of a larger memorial volume for Arnott that includes contributions from the vast range of scholars whose lives he touched, across a broad variety of disciplines. The volume is entitled MEDICA: Discoveries in Archaeology, Exchange, and Medicine in Antiquity.

After a strikingly successful first event from 3-4 December 2022, this second workshop will consider evidence for the relations between the Indus and Aegean -- and regions between and beyond -- during the Bronze Age with a particular focus on evidence for the movement of commodities. Whether direct trade or 'trickle down' exchange, the evidence for and far-reaching effects of such early Bronze Age contact will be considered and discussed.

This workshop is open, but attendance is in-person only with no hybrid option available.
